Nick Johnson, Psy.D
Dr. Nick Johnson grew up in Providence and got his Doctor of Psychology degree at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology near Boston. He’s now a licensed clinical psychologist. His therapeutic style is flexible and tailored to the specific needs of clients. An open and nonjudgmental mutual understanding of a client’s issues is always the start of treatment. As an adherent to the principles of the science of psychology, Nick’s work is often “cognitive-behavioral” in orientation. This perspective uses the documented connections between thoughts, feelings and actions to help clients gain control over unruly thoughts and emotions. In addition, his focus on the way clients tell their stories places him in the “narrative” school of psychological thought.
Nick enjoys the diversity of issues he deals with on a daily basis, and is open to treating adults for a wide variety of issues. However, his areas of particular interest include:
Anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD and phobias)
Depression (unipolar or bipolar)
The psychology of men
Geriatrics
