Hailing originally from England, I came to the USA for graduate school. I subsequently did my medical training and obtained my Ph.D in Pharmacology and Neuroscience at Albany Medical College. I completed my residency training in General Adult Psychiatry at Brown University in 2004.

I have been treating adults with mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis and ADHD at Plaza Psychology and Psychiatry since then, and am now the President of this organization I love so much. I have completed specialty training in EMDR ( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reintegration) due to my particular interest in working with adults struggling with the aftermath of childhood and adult trauma.

Dr. Nick Johnson grew up in Providence and got his Doctor of Psychology degree at William James College near Boston. His therapeutic style is flexible and tailored to the client’s specific needs, but is always open and nonjudgmental. Nick’s work is often cognitive-behavioral in orientation, using the connections between thoughts, feelings and actions to help clients manage emotional chaos. He also uses narrative therapy, focusing on how clients tell their stories and helping them notice biases. He works to give clients a solid, scientific understanding of their disorders and a deeper understanding of themselves. In couples therapy, Nick’s focus is on learning effective communication so that couples can work through their problems together.

Nick enjoys the diversity of issues he deals with on a daily basis, and is open to treating adults and adolescents for a wide variety of issues. However, his areas of particular interest include:

• Anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD and phobias)
• Couples therapy

Dr. Nicole Molina earned her B.A. in Psychology at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and her Doctorate of Psychology from William James College in Newton, MA. She completed her post-doctoral hours at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services working with incarcerated male sex offenders. She recently ran groups for incarcerated male sex offenders at the ACI in RI. She also has experience working in outpatient mental health clinics, college psychological services, a juvenile court clinic, and in inpatient settings. She enjoys working with individuals who struggle with significant life transitions, whether these be college students deciding on a career, individuals trying to cope with the end of a long-term relationship or a sudden loss of a job, with children trying to adjust to changes at school, or with adolescents trying to figure out who they are and how to gain autonomy. Dr. Molina has worked with clients ranging in age from five to eighty years old, boys and girls, men and women, LGBT clients, and transgendered clients.

Dr. Molina believes that therapy is a collaborative process in which client and therapist work together to identify realistic, healthy goals. Dr. Molina further sees therapy as a time to learn and practice new skills in order to live a more effective and healthy life. Dr. Molina also believes that therapy is an on-going process focusing on growth rather than “the quick fix.”

Dr. Molina was born and raised in Northern RI. After completing her studies she returned to settle down with her family (including animals). She has a strong desire to provide treatment and services to those in the community that shaped her beliefs as a person and as a psychologist. I am an independently licensed clinical social worker, and have been practicing for many years in a variety of settings in RI. I am currently available at Plaza to see adults, 18 years and older, as well as couples and families. I will address any concerns, but have a special interest in working with people who are in recovery from addiction. If you are managing your addiction, and are looking for support and guidance as you move forward, I would be happy to meet with you. My general focus in treatment is a holistic one, working toward a balance of the mind, spirit and the body. I truly believe that we are at our best when we can feel centered and at peace within, and this is how I feel that I can be most helpful to people that I work with in therapy. I look forward to meeting you!

Larry Simon is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who treats adults with anxiety and mood disorders, and substance abuse issues.

I am originally from Costa Rica. I moved to the USA a little over twenty years ago. My motivation to move to Rhode Island was to pursue a master’s degree in International Business at Johnson and Wales University. I had to take a job at the Providence Center as a Case Manager to pay for my tuition. Working at the Providence Center was a career changer for me, as I felt that it was my calling to help others to improve their quality of life and reintegrate into society. I got married and started a family a few years later. I am the proud mother of a 14 year old girl that is my constant motivation to strive for a better me and to set a great example. I am a happy person that enjoys traveling, cooking, gardening, music, decorating spaces, going to the beach and entertaining friends. I completed my master’s degree two years ago in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling and I am currently pursuing my LMHC licensure. I am happy and excited to start this new chapter in my life and very grateful for the opportunity to continue to provide services to this population that is so special to me.
